February, the month of love! Thanks to greeting card companies. Seriously though, it is cold. What’s with that? One step closer to warmtimes. Here are some things to keep you distracted while Mother Nature and Old Man Winter fight out their custody battle over the temperature.

TV- LOST (Tuesdays 9pm)- It’s back baby. The mind-warpingest show in history kicked off its swan song this month and from the looks of it, we are in for SOME kinda ride. Look for lots of mythology answers early on and then moving toward a conclusion of this season’s storyline. I’ve still got my fingers crossed for a zombie storyline. Our favorite castaways look to ride on into the sunset, but we’ve got a lot of ground to cover before any happy endings.

Movies- Shutter Island (Feb 19)- Hmmm. Color me mildly skeptical on this one. This film was pushed back from its original release date, but it definitely has the pedigree: Scorsese directing Dicaprio from a well-received novel by an accomplished mystery author. It looks creepy. Jackie Earle Haley also plays a role as some kinda wackadoo. I think I’d see this one during the day time, ramblers. Looks to be some trippy visuals and Ben Kingsley as a controlling warden. It’s got a lot of the right elements going for it. Then again Kingsley was in The Love Guru, Dicaprio was in The Quick and the Dead, and Haley was in Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence. Put altogether with Michelle Williams and Mark Ruffalo though and this cast is tough to beat. Ok, color me less skeptical than before. Like if I was Navy Blue before I’m probably Periwinkle now.

Music- Field Music’s Measure (Feb. 16)- After 3 extremely long years and a successful solo album apiece, the Brewis brothers are back! Given that Tones of Town is in my pantheon of favorite straight-thru play albums of all time, this one is a no-brainer. And it’s a double disc! Now double discs are precarious, but I have high hopes for these two bros. They have yet to disappoint.  Melodies, Spoonish rhythms, and layers of strings are the bread and butter of this group.  I highly recommend ToT and and frothing at the mouth for this album, it’s a medical condition people. Deal with it.

Guilty pleasure: Not really guilty, but I’ve been super digging Videogum of late. Hilarious posts on all manner of interwebs/tv/movie-related stuff. The comment section is what sets this site apart as Videogum’s “Monsters” are some of the most clever commenters on the WWW. If you have a few moments and want to sample. I suggest the site’s main author Gabe’s quest for the WORST MOVIE OF ALL TIME. Amazing reading.

March next. In like a lion they say!
