4 New Things to Put in Your Ears!

It’s not as gross as it sounds I promise! This has been a cold, but fruitful January for music, some expected, some entirely unexpected, but all fantastic.  Lucky you.

May I humbly suggest the following:
Vampire Weekend-Contra #1 in America? This is only the 12th indie album to ever hit Billboard #1, and it’s worthy of such lofty acclaim. Great new sounds mixed in with their familiar groove. I implore you to listen to this cause I don’t want to be friends with any clown who doesn’t know what the #1 record in America is when its an indie record. (Best Tracks: White Sky, Giving Up the Gun)
Spoon- Transference If I have to implore you to listen to Spoon still, get over yourself.  Basically the coolest, most consistent band in America. Their slick production is done all by themselves this time and it helps to continue to find nooks and crannies in their trademark sound.  These guys continue to get it done. (Best Tracks: Written In Reverse, Is Love Forever?)
Beach House-Teen Dream Beach House are a duo from Baltimore who started out making really pretty, quiet, slow, sleepy-time music.  Since then they’ve started to veer more and more into this really pretty dreamy pop with soul. This is their most listenable album yet and I would really implore you to listen to it. (Best Tracks: Real Love, Zebra, Norway)
Surfer Blood- Astro Coast Disregard the wildly frightening album cover and take a listen and you’ll see they make really fun guitar rock. It’s kinda like 60′s surfer rock filtered through sing along songs as if they were intended to be rock anthems. If you’re not confused now, I implore you to listen to them.
(Best Tracks: Swim, Twin Peaks)
And your word of the post is…implore!

Really enjoying Surfer Blood bro, even though it conjurs up the things I try not to think about when surfing alone in Oregon. This will end up in rotation on my wedding playlist for sure
