Get Fired Up For: NOVEMBER!

It has been a ridiculously long time since I threw one of these at you. I apologize, I know you blindly lead me and for too long I’ve not been leading you anywhere. Well I’m back bootlickers (found that synonym on the interwebs) to show you what’s what for the month ahead in pop culture.

Them Crooked Vultures- Them Crooked Vultures
Supergroups have a checkered history, but this one has just about everything going right for it. It features Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, and Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters & Nirvana. Umm, awesome. They’ve got Grohl back on drums with Homme on lead vox and things are sounding good from the clips I’ve scrounged off of the interwebs. It’ll certainly be a rousing rock record, let’s hope that Homme and Grohl can recapture some of the magic they had when Grohl guested on a QOTSA album and make something new to rock us into the winter.

V- November 3, ABC
There isn’t a whole lot new on TV come November usually, but guess what!? What you say? One of the season’s most anticipated series starts in November? It does, it’s V. V is a remake of a classic 1983 miniseries which became a tv show. Basically it’s an allegory with aliens. I know, not new, but apparently the source material is fantastic and the guys running the show are skilled with the show The 4400 in their back pocket. And they have a great cast with Elizabeth Mitchell (LOST), Morena Baccarin (Firefly), and Joel Gretsch (The 4400). Things to me look pretty snazzy on this bit, but the reviews have been a little unbalanced, we’ll find out soon enough!

The Men Who Stare at Goats
There are plenty of good movies coming out this month, but for me I’m most excited about this one. I read the book by Jon Ronson last summer and it was absolutely engaging and hilarious. I highly recommend it. If the movie captures the dry, zany tone of the book, we’re in good shape. The cast is top notch (Clooney, MacGregor, Bridges, and Spacey), the source material is hilarious, and the vibe is a lot different than what you’re going to see during these later months. I hope they don’t stray too far from the book. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you what it’s about. Psychic mind spies. Amazing. It takes a look at an ACTUAL military program that was run by the US a few decades ago that truthfully tried to find mind warriors. One of the methods they tested these psychic warriors with was trying to stare at a goat and kill it using mind power. No joke. Ladies and gentlmen, I give you the strongest military power in the world! Go watch!

Weezer- Raditude
Call me a masochist. But I love ‘em. Sometimes I don’t know why since they haven’t really come close to touching their Blue Album, Pinkerton era glory, but I love ‘em. You all know them, you know how disappointing they’ve been in recent albums, but they have a great single off this album and one of the most ridiculous album titles and covers of all time. The really intriguing thing is that Rivers Cuomo (lead man) let other people contribute, people like Jermaine Dupri and The All-American Rejects.  Needless to say, an intriguing proposition.
