It’s what I want more of. I know you’re out there. In fact, I’m friends with a lot of you and one of you is trying to “make it.” My question or point really is that there are so few hilarious roles for women out there. It’s something that has come to my mind a lot lately as I’ve been getting fired up for The Hangover. It seems like there’s always a new dude-led comedy coming out from the Judd Apatow factory and I get that they’re doing what they know. But how hard can it be to write for the opposite sex? Just take out a couple fart jokes. On second thought, leave the fart jokes. Fart jokes are awesome (if I ever say different, slap me). But honestly there is a never-ending slew of hilarious movies featuring men, how often can you honestly say you crack up with females in the lead?
Now I’m NOT saying women are less funny, if it sounds like that, I’m sorry, I certainly don’t mean it in that way. What I mean is, let’s let some women be funny. Have you seen the shorts Natalie Portman has been in over the last year or so? She’s hilarious and she’s not even known as a comedienne. There have to be oodles of funny women waiting for a break. One of my favorite shows of this year featured a character that was a budding comedienne. Shockingly, she was struggling to get work. Art imitating life I’m afraid. I think it’s time we see some funny female leads, because I know they exist and I want ‘em.
I’m sure the 50 or so of you who read this blog regularly will make your voices heard and in no time we’ll be cracking up at the female coming-of-age movies a la Judd Apatow. Personally, I can’t wait.
What do you think ramblers, do the men monopolize? Or is hollywood afraid of a funny woman?

There really are a rare few women I would consider funny, not only in the Hollywood realm, but amongst people that I know! I don't know if it is because of the sense of humor that I have personally, which is typically dry/sarcastic, which women do not seem to naturally have or 'get' as often as men do.
Idk…I like Tina Fey…
Reference a Seinfeld episode "The Shoes" that I just saw on syndicate recently…
Elaine and Jerry are sitting at lunch after Jerry and George have submitted their pilot to NBC for review. The pilot is the one where a man is sentenced to become a butler… beside the point. Anyways, Jerry says that Elaine is not written into the pilot because it is difficult to write for a woman.
There are female writers out there, but a majority of producers/directors are men. The reason that 30 Rock does so well for the women is that there are great women writers for the show. The more great female writers come along, I think the more you'll see women is solid comedic roles.
