So I’m a fan of NPR, one of the things I really like is a show called “All Songs Considered.” Basically I want the host’s job of picking sweet new tunes for people to hear. I already do this, but I don’t get paid for it. Regardless of my plotting Bob Boilen’s demise, they raised a great question on this week’s show, what music do you not care for, that you probably should? I’d like to look at it in terms of all of pop culture.
For me, the most ready example is The Sopranos. I’ve watched it, I’ve tried to watch it, but I just can’t get into it. It makes no sense. I’m not a HUGE fan of gangster movies, but I do enjoy them quite a bit and it turns out that The Sopranos is really just a super-long gangster movie. For whatever reason it’s never taken with me. I can’t put my finger on it. In fact, there’s nothing I necessarily dislike, it’s just that there’s nothing I really like either. I mean if I want to see horse heads in beds, wackings and the like, I’ll just turn to the movies. I’m not giving up on it, but I just can’t get fired up about watching it.
Musically speaking, for the longest time it was Radiohead, but now I think the honor goes to Sonic Youth. Which just sounds like noise to me. That’s right MUSE, just noise. NOT music. You know it’s true. I understand that they laid the groundwork for some of my now favorite bands and that I appreciate. I just have a problem with calling it “good,” “revolutionary,” or “music.” I like melodies and harmonies. They are pretty. Give me some of those SY and I’ll be on board.
Movieally speaking, this dubious honor goes to The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. It makes absolutely no sense. Bill Murray is one of my favorite actors. I think he’s just excellent and I like most Wes Anderson movies. Obviously, it would then make sense that the Bill Murray + Wes Anderson= victory. You’d be wrong. I haven’t rewatched it, and I probably should, but I didn’t even make it through the first time. I turned it off. I NEVER TURN OFF MOVIES. EVER. I’ve seen the Jean Claud Van Damme stinker Replicant all the way through, and I turned this off. It boggles the mind.
There it is folks. That’s what I probably should, but just don’t give a hoot about. What’s it for you?
Also, I apologize for being less than regular with my posting. I promise more fiber in the weeks to come. Potentially big changes for PR coming soon.

big changes?
Are u going to review cartoons too?
Just saying…
I’d like that *blushing*
How dare you insinuate that Replicant was anything but magical, life changing, and glorious. You make me sad sometimes… you really do.
